City of Marina Community Center

In the early 1950’s , Bing Crosby initiated a program for Youth center development; more than 150 youth centers were built under this program.  The Marina Youth Center was     constructed as a Butler building, with a      gymnasium, restrooms, kitchen, and game area. Today the building serves as a youth and    community center.

In 2002, the City commissioned Congleton   Architect to prepare designs for extensive   interior and exterior renovations.  The steel building had suffered corrosion from the salt air, and required all new roof and wall panels and windows.  A suspended ceiling was removed from the gymnasium space, restoring the    original height needed for basketball.        Restrooms and the stage were made accessible for disabled persons.  The kitchen was updated.
